Course Descriptions

  • Hermeneutics - This course introduces the art and science of Biblical interpretation. The following analysis techniques are included: historical-cultural, contextual, lexical-syntactical, theological, and special literary methods. Also included are the history of hermeneutics and the canonization process.
  • Old Testament Survey - This course examines each book of the Old Testament. Topics include identification of author, date and place of authorship, literary analysis, and major theological messages.
  • New Testament Survey - This course examines each book of the New Testament. Topics include identification of author, date and place of authorship, literary analysis, and major theological messages.
  • Theology I, II, and III - This is a 3-quarter sequence covering Systematic Theology. The following major doctrinal areas are examined: God, man, Christ, salvation, the church, and end times. Additional topics (e.g. Kingdom of God) will be included as time permits.
  • Old Testament History - This course examines the historical period covered by the Old Testament. Particular attention is paid to God’s use of the nations surrounding Israel to affect His people.
  • New Testament History - This course examines the historical period from the rise of the Greek empire until the Roman destruction of Jerusalem. Particular attention is paid to the influences of philosophical, religious, economic, and political concerns upon the people of that era.
  • Church History - This course covers the history of the Christian church from the rise of the imperial Catholic church through the charismatic revival of the 20th century. Particular attention is paid to forces and events leading to the Protestant Reformation.
  • Greek I, II, and III - This is a 3-quarter sequence introducing the vocabulary, grammar, and translation of New Testament Greek. Strong emphasis is placed on grammatical inflection. Students translate Greek sentences, including Bible verses.
  • Pastoral Leadership - This course is a survey of various topics that are likely to be encountered by pastors. Topics include pastoral duties, & responsibilities, church government, finances, homiletics, prayer, resolving conflict, church health & growth, and making disciples.
  • Biblical Counseling - This course introduces techniques for effective biblical counseling. Students learn how to help people change with the Bible’s help. The biblical process, various methods, and related issues are examined.
  • Missions - This course is a survey of various topics concerning the worldwide spread of the Gospel. Missions ministry is examined from Biblical, historical, cultural, and strategic viewpoints.
