Community Outreach
Christian Assembly finds many ways to connect with the Durham community to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

In the process, we have discovered some ways to do that to get us out on the streets, help us interact with people in a genuine way, and provide fun things to do together as we help people with the love of Jesus.
Emergency Food Pantry
Christian Assembly’s Emergency Food Pantry seeks to minister to those in need within our community both physically and spiritually. Located in the church Annex Building, the Food Pantry is open Thursday afternoons from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.

The CA Food Pantry serves the Durham area as an official emergency relief distribution location in times of disaster. We provided assistance to Hurricane Katrina victims that relocated to the Triangle. But most of the ongoing work of the Food Pantry is in providing food assistance to those presently in need in our community. Part of the Second Harvest Network, most of the food in the pantry is purchased from the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. Since food availability from the Food Bank varies seasonally, we also rely on donations. A dedicated group of volunteer adults and young people work together to serve our community in this ministry. For more information please email CA Emergency Food Pantry Director Wayne Littleton call the church office at 919-471-0220.
Community Help Fair

In 2009 CA hosted a Community Help Fair for people who are struggling during the recession. 15 agencies and organizations that are designed to help people get the assistance they need in the areas of housing, mortgage, employment, job training, financial assistance, food and the basics of life participated. Agencies and organizations included Child Care Services Association, Durham Economic Resource Center, Durham Interfaith Hospitality Network, DSS (Work First, Food Stamps, Medicaid), Durham Regional Community Development Group (Consumer Credit Counseling), Dress For Success, Emergency Chaplains, ESC/Joblink, The Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC, Habitat for Humanity, Pregnancy Support Services, and TROSA.
We gave away free hotdogs, sodas, games, balloons, entertainment, prayer, promotional items, and more. It was a beautiful day, we had a great time, and lots of people received the help they needed to get through some difficulty. We’ve been encouraged to do it again so we’ll see what the Lord has in mind!
And Many More…
We work with other churches in our region on many different ways to share the love of Jesus through an after school program in Section 8 housing, music and drama outreaches, evangelism events, city-wide prayer meetings, and community help and redevelopment projects. We participated in the area-wide Greg Laurie Harvest Crusade and approximately 3000 people made commitments to Christ.
Another unique way that we let the community know that the church cares is that we have our own CA Hot Dog Team that not only provides support for CA’s outreach events, but also partners with other churches and Christian organizations to help reach our city for Christ. Contact the church if you would like to have this kind of help for your church or community event.
