The tragic situation in Haiti requires our compassionate response. The best way to help right now is to send funds. HISG is led by a friend that we trust. Last Sunday we collected $1650, matched that from the general fund, rounded up a little and sent $3500. Another donor matched that and our congregation’s initial offering of $1650 became a total of $7000 for water purification systems, tents, food, and medical supplies. The end of the year is a good time for personal reflection while the new year offers new promise, new opportunities, and the hope of a fresh start. Fortunately, we have a God that believes in new beginnings all year round. At CA we’re looking forward to an amazing 2010 starting with our Men’s Conference, Jan. 14-16, closely followed by the Grace Churches International Regional Prayer Gathering at CA on Saturday, Jan. 31. Everyone at some time in their life will pray. It may be as simple as, “God, are you up there?” It may be a plea for help in a dangerous or difficult situation. Whatever the form, everyone wonders whether there is something or someone out there and if so, are our prayers being heard? What is prayer anyway? Is it real? How can we know our prayers are going to the right place or person? Does God answer?

For the next two weeks we’ll be learning more about prayer at our Sunday morning services. You are invited to come to either the 9:00 or 11:00 AM services where dress is always casual. Nursery and children’s ministry are provided during the 11:00 service for infants to age 12. Come and learn more about how we can communicate with God and how He communicates with us. It will be time well spent.

You know him, you love him, you can’t live without him! Our buddy Mike White will be speaking on Sunday at both services. Come hear a great message from God.

Gary Davis, our friend and brother, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday at 4:00 PM. A celebration of his life will be held at CA on Saturday, July 25 at 3:00 PM. Visitation with the family will follow immediately at the church. Cards and flowers may be sent to CA or to Clements Funeral Service in Durham.

This Sunday GCI Leader Tom Johnson will be our special guest speaker. Tom travels for GCI and does a lot of work around the world to promote the Gospel and help train leaders. He’s a good friend and a great speaker. We’re looking forward to having Tom and his lovely wife Julie with us this Sunday.

Services are at 9:00 & 11:00 with nursery and children’s ministry during the 2nd service. Dress is casual as always. Everyone is invited.
